20 March 2019 12:10 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Tourism has set a goal to help boost the country’s halal tourism by 20-30 percent in 2019.

“Especially in the hotel and restaurant sector,” said Riwud Mujirahayu, Tourism Ministry’s Deputy of industry and institutional development (BPIK) in South Sulawesi.

Riwud explained that the ministry has partnered with numerous associations and universities in preparing the halal tourism curriculum to later be implemented at Indonesia’s Tourism State University (PTNP).

The Tourism Ministry also said that a specially tailored curriculum is essential considering that halal tourism will be part of the future tourism business. Riwud said that the facilities already exist and just needs to be backed by its human resources tasked to provide halal services.

According to the Head of the Lombok Tourism Polytechnic (Poltekpar) Hamsu Hanafi, halal tourism houses a major potential for the fact that there are roughly one billion Muslims who travel annually, especially from the Middle East.
